If your kids are anything like mine (as in, living in the 21st century, not living on a windmill-powered farm, etc.) they are going to be on the internet for...a fair amount of time! Am I right? We don't want to hold our kids back from the advancements of technology, including the internet, but we want to be good, responsible parents as well! There's plenty of good out there, but just as much bad. It's one thing when our kids want to play "The Ultimate Celebrity Makeover", but when they start looking up "101 Ways to Cheat on Your Test", we know something's gotta go. OK, I may be exaggerating a little, but only a very little.
So, how do we give them the freedom to explore, while at the same time setting safe boundaries?
Here are two great parental control programs for when your children are on the internet. One allows you to see what they've put up, what their friends are saying, what games they've played, etc. It's called, "Minor Monitor."
The other one allows you to filter and block whatever you like on the internet--either specific sites, or content. It also enables you to limit time allowed on the internet! It's called, "K9 Web Protection". Both are simple and easy to use--I use the K9 Web Protection with my kids, and although they balked a bit when we first started, they've gotten used to it, and I can go get some fresh air without worrying they might be discovering something that isn't meant to be discovered yet!

I use Norton Safety Minder (it's free) and it has been a life saver. And the best thing - my teenagers can't figure out how to disable it!!

I love how it sends me an email right away if they attempt to do something they shouldn't. It really makes me feel better and I don't have to stand over their shouldn't 24/7.

Great post!

Hi, Christina! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the tip! I shall surely add that to my "Mommy-must-have" programs!

I always used the history feature. Unless the kid was savvy enough to figure out, I could find out whatever site they were on and pretty much anything. Just saying - love you site, honey

Welcome, Mom! Nice to see you here! Yes, the history feature is great, IF the kids don't know how to disable it, which my kids do--plus, with as many computers and kids as we have, I honestly don't often get around to checking them as much as I'd like. For small families with younger kids, it's a great, simple alternative. Thanks for mentioning!
